What Is Lateral Entry In B.Tech? Bachelor of Technology/ B Tech Lateral Entry (LE) is one of the most sought courses as most of the students have completed their diplomas in engineering and now want to pursue B Tech degree/lateral entry engineering.

Although, the course path for B.Tech LE is different from regular B.Tech as former is made more as per industry standard and curriculum keeps on getting updated.

Eligibility for B Tech Lateral Entry (Second Year)

If anyone is planning to go for B.Tech LE (Lateral Entry) then you must have successfully completed a 3 year diploma in engineering. A candidate must have scored atleast 50% aggregate in 3-year diploma. Most of the students do diploma after class 10th. Although, students who have completed diploma after 12th also is also eligible for B.tech lateral entry.

B.Tech Lateral Entry Programmes Admission Process (Second Year)

Usually, LEET (Lateral Entry Entrance Test) takes place to get direct entry into second year that is lateral entry. Although, for AICTE approved universities for engineering, Admission process is simple as it doesn’t involve any entrance exam. Candidates interested can directly connect with the AICTE Approved university and can fill the application form along with the fee payment.

Facilities Given to the Students?

B.Tech LE (Lateral Entry) students get direct entry into second year. This is the only difference. University conducts classes that are held by industry experts. These classes are also recorded and shared on Learning Management System. Classes are conducted in University as well as in regional offices.

Lateral entry students can attend regular classes with regular students. The only difference would be that diploma holders would get direct entry into second year and everything will remain similar like with regular students. AICTE approved universities offering B Tech lateral entry provide learning management system where students are able to find E-Books, assignments, Recorded lectures and more.

This is like a virtual classroom where each and every query can also be solved through direct connect with the professors. Even candidates can attend weekend classes where they can discuss with industry experts and can get industry insights.

Which one is better – Regular B.Tech or B.Tech Lateral Entry?

AICTE has considered Btech lateral entry equivalent to the regular one. There is no difference as such between both. As far as job opportunities are concerned, both the programs are considered equivalent in the market. Students who pursue B.Tech LE are offered the same opportunities and positions as regular B.Tech graduates.

Fees Structures – B Tech LE (Lateral Entry)

Fees of the course vary according to the university you select. It ranges between 35K – 63K per semester inclusive of all the costs like books cost, examination cost and Learning Management cost.
